Pool People – the slides
Here’s the slides from the presentation I gave today in the comm2322 seminar.
There’s not a lot of explanation, sorry, and I expect they’ll make little or no sense without having been at the seminar.

Last night members of the ACID team gave a presentation to around 35 people about the use of Mental Models in the redesign of Pool.
The presentation gave a brief overview of Pool and the research/design process, and talked about how we used the mental model to communicate outcomes of user research to stakeholders. We then conducted a group activity, coming up with a mental model for why people attend CHI (Computer Human Interaction) events.

Over the past month or so we’ve been working to come come up with a look and feel for the new Pool. The wireframes went half way, and it was up to the visual design to finish it off.
It’s without further ado that we reveal the proposed designs of Pool V2!

Way back in May we completed a report for the ABC summarising the research we had completed to date. It contains sections detailing:
The report is 16 pages long and is in PDF format.

In previous posts on the framework we talked about the need for three dashboards – one each for Work, People and Projects. Each of these acts as an alternate entry point to Pool – a different window on the same room. We talked about the difference between logged in and logged out states, and initially saw the dashboards being the starting points for users too.
As it turns out, we’ve moved away from this concept over the last two weeks. Dashboards still exist, but remain largely the same whether you are logged in or not. Keep reading to find out why.

Interested in getting a sneak peak of Pool V2? Keen to give the ACID designers a hand testing out our new designs? Then we’d love to hear from you! We’re currently seeking users for one-on-one interviews to be conducted at RMIT University in the Melbourne CBD.

After spending time on our framework, we’re finally at the stage where we can offer you some of that detail you’ve been craving. We’ve begun work on the visual design of the new version of Pool, but here’s what we propose the homepage will look like, minus the prettiness.

In our last post we revealed the site map for Pool V2 and spoke about our high level goals for the new structure of Pool. We’ve been continuing to refine this framework and have spent the last week working on wireframes – low fidelity screens aimed at communicating concepts, navigation, and content types without getting stuck on the design detail.

We’ve spent the last few days nutting out what the new Pool is made up of, how the ingredients interact with one another, and how it’s all going to be structured. Some of our initial aims with this were to:
We wanted to come up with a site map (amongst other things), that will guide us through the development of the actual screens. Here’s what we came up with.

As the first step in developing the new Information Architecture for Pool, we’re looking at the types of content that exist on the site and how they relate to each other. Reuben drew a nice diagram of this that we’d like to share with you.
